A busy period in the town centre with remains of early to mid- 19th century textile mills, workers’ housing and a mid-18th century school being recorded ahead of The Rock retail development. An open area excavation at the site of Knowsley Street railway station (opened in 1848) ahead of its destruction by development, ended with a successful open day providing the people of Bury with a chance to view the remains.
